Kesgrave High School in Ipswich is founded on the principle that the school exists for the benefit of the pupils, so it is clear that the facilities the school provides must be to high standards. Sports activities are very important and the P.E Department even has its own blog providing information on fixtures, results, primary events with images and videos of recent events also available.
In 2010, Kesgrave High School set aside time to be dedicated to raising funds for the new Multi Use Games Area, including events such as Students vs. Teachers dodge ball games and other sports day events. The school wanted a new multi use games area which could be used the whole year around no matter what the weather, and their needs were met by artificial sport surface Matchplay 2 by Playrite. The sports surface was installed by Suffolk County Grounds Service and Playrite’s National Sales Manager Steve Byrnes who commented how:
“With the different Playrite surfaces Jez Ansty from Suffolk County Grounds Service has used in the past such as Matchwinner, Champion and Matchplay 2, after discussing the school’s needs and requirements it was clear that Matchplay 2 was the best option. This was because tennis and netball where the two prime sports and with its low maintenance and durability it was an easy choice.”
Matchplay 2 was initially designed as a sand dressed tennis surface, but its high performance and durability means that it is excellent for multi sport use. Kesgrave High School decided to have inlaid lines permanently added to the pitch to define each sport and to further reduce maintenance and upkeep. With an inbuilt cushioning layer, the surface is easier on player’s leg joints and what’s more the surface is suitable for all ages and abilities. Brian Hawkins, Deputy Head for Kesgrave High School worked closely with both Playrite and Suffolk County Grounds Service whilst they installed the synthetic sports surface. He commented:
