Football
Due to the latest development in synthetic grass, a dedicated 3rd Generation surface known as 3G is now available for football; this does however limit the suitability for any of the smaller ball sports being played on a 3G surface.
The football surface has to be a long pile and therefore tufted carpets can only achieve over a 40mm pile height. These surfaces offer maximum comfort under foot, exceptional ball bounce and good ball control, and are filled with a sand and rubber granule to form a rubber crumb sports pitch. They are reliant on regular maintenance and infill levels should be checked weekly. To maintain the playing performance over a longer period a shockpad should be recommended for any surfaces with a pile height under 60mm.
Artificial 3G sports surfaces have been used to hold UEFA Champions League games, and FIFA promotes the use of synthetic football surfaces and pitches. Playrite artificial football pitches hold the FIFA 1 star performance rating under the IATS classification, as well as meeting EN15330 part 1.
