After The Flood – Artificial Sports Surfaces

If you have been affected by the recent bad weather its worth bearing in mind the following points when it comes to your artificial sports surface. Even though the water may have subsided, many hazards will still remain which you’ll need to take into consideration to keep your staff, volunteers, members and general public safe.

A planned approach to clean up is required to maintain safety and the long term use of the facility. First thing is to contact your insurance company – do not remove anything from site until you have done this.

Secondly take advice from a specialist sports surface consultant to establish if the surface can be rejuvenated or if a new surface is required. You should be careful to wash the sediment off the surface and remove in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Do not wash the sediment into the pile or into perimeter drains as this will block drainage.

Heavily affected artificial sports surfaces should be cleaned using specialist equipment by specialist cleaning contractors. The equipment should combine brushed with air or water to clean the surface and any infill to remove the sediment. If the worst comes to the worst contact your manufacturer who would be able to advise on overlaying the existing ground work.

Grandplay: The Tennis Surface Of Champions

137 years on, and Wimbledon is still a thrilling as ever.

We’re now halfway through the 2015 instalment of the world’s greatest tennis tournament, and it’s proving to be as popular as always. Tennis has taken over once again, and here at Playrite, we love it.

While its main purpose is to showcase the biggest tennis talents from across the globe, there’s much more to Wimbledon than game, set, match. Year in, year out, the grounds buzz with energy and excitement. Huge crowds gather to get first-hand experience of the world famous event, cheering on the talents that grace the courts, whilst indulging in a Pimms and a punnet of strawberries! Wimbledon is the perfect time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the wonderful game of tennis… And it’s also the perfect time for us to start talking about our brand new tennis surface.

Playing surfaces have a huge influence on how sport is played, and for tennis in particular, it’s crucial. That’s why we’re delighted to introduce the newest addition, Grandplay, to our tennis surface range.

A unique yarn structure helps make Grandplay one of the best sports surfaces on the market, and ensures that it exhibits the features that make for a great playing experience. An ideal tennis surface will produce accurate ball bounce, allow speed to be achieved, and prevent against skidding and injury – it’s not only true to the game, but safe for players, too.

The ultimate in tennis surfaces for both practice and play, Grandplay boasts unbeatable durability and excellent ball performance. It also looks and feels realistic, making for an even better playing experience. Our favourite feature of Grandplay, however, is that it’s suited to all skill levels. First timers, keen players and pros alike can enjoy the benefits of Grandplay, utilising its innovative properties for a great game of tennis.

We’re keen to see Grandplay installed at clubs across the UK, providing the perfect surface for our next Wimbledon champions to train on. After all, great British products shape great British players. Here’s to the next generation of Wimbledon champions!

Golcar Remembers.

As we move into November many peoples thoughts turn to Remembrance day and paying respects for the hero’s of our services past and present.

Terry O’Hagan, an employee of Playrite, knows better than most the sacrifices that affect peoples lives and is instrumental in his community in fundraising and honouring those in our armed services. Terry is an active member in Golcar British Legion and this year they held a service of commemoration for the 100th Anniversary of the commencement of World War 1.

Sporting challenges 2014

Congratulations must firstly go out to all of our colleagues and partners that completed the Manchester 10K, during this weekend’s searing heat. Out of the 40,000 people taking part, one of our crew came home in 277th place with a fantastic time of 39mins, 58 secs. A massive well done to all our runners and importantly, what a fantastic amount of money raised for brain tumour research.

This comes just shortly after the success of our Managing Director Andrew Sykes running the London Marathon in a more than respectable 3hrs 2mins!!

We’re looking forward to having a go at some more challenges this year too.
